email tray icon

I am trying to get my computer to display the email icon
in the system tray.

I have Windows XP and Outlook 2002.

My email account is an MSN account with HTTP interface.

I have checked the box marked "Show an envelope icon in
the system tray" when a new messages arrives (under
advanced email options).

However, it does not do this. What did I miss?

Many of the POP3 features in Outlook do NOT operate with HTTPmail
accounts. You'll see that even the Inbox for Hotmail is in a different
information store (PST file and folder in the tree view) than the Inbox
for POP3 accounts. Rules also don't get exercised against HTTPmail
accounts. If you want POP3 features against a Hotmail account, then
don't use HTTPmail in Outlook [Express]. Instead use Hotmail Popper as
a POP3-to-HTTP proxy, define a POP3 account in Outlook, and use Hotpop
to yank your Hotmail e-mails.

In Taskbar properties make sure it isn't hidden as a result of seen as an
inactive icon.
