email store/compression

J

Jacques

Greetings all:

Is there a way to stop compression? I know that for a fact that when you
delete email after you have received them, they do not go away. Instead,
they are merely stored in one file and then compressed. I would like to be
able to delete and not just compress them in an ever bigger file.

I don't know if this question has ever been asked before. So, thank you for
your patience

No, messages are not stored in one file; not even deleted messages. Your
understanding is incorrect.

Resistance is futile. Don't resist compression; it is good medicine.

Has anyone ever asked how to avoid compression? Definitely; on average,
about once a month.

In WinMail, its different than in OE. In OE the dbx files held the messages
and when messages were deleted the files needed to be compacted (NOT
compressed) to remove the wasted space from the messages and from the
database. In WinMail, since the messages are stored individually, they are
completely unaffected by compaction and the only thing that gets compacted
is the database, WindowsMail.MSMessageStore . There seem to be some issues
with the database in WinMail at times, so its good to compact the database
to correct some of these issues and sometimes its necessary to repair the
database, which my Windows Mail Utility (www.oehelp.com/WMUTil/) will do.

Compacting, (AKA Compressing in some languages), does not make a bigger
file. It removes the wasted space that is left when you delete messages.
You are asking to do exactly what you don't want to do.
