compressing JPG files

Does anyone know of a utility that can compress multiple JPG files in a few
easy steps, say to a quality of 3. I just want to compress it and keep each
file individual, not merge them to a single compressed file.

I am NOT looking for a WinZip program...

FWIW...Before you proceed...I guess you know the
photos cannot be reverted to the original resolution?

Try the freeware IrfanView:

IrfanView
http://www.software.com/irfanview
(get the plug-ins too)
http://www.software.com/irfanview-plugin

Once you have the program downloaded and installed...
go to...File / Open...navigate to the folder your photos
are in and select one (doesn't matter which one).

When the photo opens in the main screen...go to...
File / Batch Conversion...

You'll see all the photos from the folder in the 'Look In'
field. Left click the "Add All" button and you will see
the files appear in the..."Input Files" field.

Left click the 'Options' button and adjust the Quality
slider / OK.

Choose an Output Directory...

Left click the...Start Batch...button.

Wait...(it should go very quickly)

Since you are posting in a Win XP group...I guess
you are running Win XP?

If you are...the following free image resizer may be
a better utility for you. (does not work on Vista)

There is a free PowerToy called
ImageResizer...you can download it at
the following link:

After it's installed, you can open any folder
that contains images and you will have an
option to resize. Just right click the selected
image files and choose Resize Pictures.
You can select one image or a whole group.

The program will place the resized copies in
the folder with your originals.

BTW...when resizing if you go to...Advanced
Button / Custom...and enter 640 in each field...
that will be a good size for e-mail purposes.
