I've had this problem for quite a while now where my
internet email settings spontaneously change. Usually
it's the pop3 server name. I set it to 'pop' and hours or
days later, it changes to something else like
localhost/pop. Or the smtp setting changes, or the
account login name changes from paas to paas/pop/pop. I'm
using the Outlook 2000 client. Sometimes it even changes
in the middle of using outlook. I can tell when it's
happened because Outlook will start prompting me to login
because it is unable with the mangled settings.

I haven't been able to find anything in the knowledgebase,
and I'm up-to-date on all Windows 2000 and Office 2000
service packs.

Anybody heard of this, or have any suggestions?

It's probably your AV software. What flavor and version are you using?

You could be right. I think this may have started around
the time I installed PC-cillin 2002. I have program
version 9.05 Build 1389. Engine version 6.51.

Trend Micro has this in their knowledgebase. They say
that this is working as designed to support their pop3trap
program. I have had pop3trap disabled but it changes the
settings anyway, keeps a process running, and prevents my
email client from working.

Thanks for the pointer! Even if I can't fix pc-cillin, I
can remove it :)
