Email sends twice

Using Windows XP Professional v. 2002, with SP2 installed and OUTLOOK 2000.
Some emails send TWICE, but this is inconsistent. Ideas? Is there a conflict
and should we update to OUTLOOK 2003 or whatever most recent is?

most recent is?

The most common cause of this is scannjing outgoing messages with an
antivirus program. DIsable any mail scanning. Another cause may be a
server timeout value set too low. See the Advanced tab of your account
properties pages.
