Email Searching - start with most recent?

Amie

When I am searching for an email and enter a name into the field after
pressing 'Find', can I set the search to begin with the most recent messages
and work its way back?

It always starts with the most dated and then it takes so long to pull up
recent messages from that particular contact.

Thanks...

No. Find always starts with the oldest items.

Not really, it starts with the first item that applies in the pst- or
ost-file index. This doesn't necessarily have to be the oldest item. For
instance when you create a new ost-file and do a search, it will start with
the most recent mail as the most recent email is synced first. You'll see
that from that day on, whenever you do a search, it will start from that
date/item.

When you do a search against the Exchange server with Cached Mode turned
off, it will always start with the most recent item.

Anyway, I won't be bothered too much with the built-in search of Outlook
2003 and previous. Indexed searches will give you faster result either way.
For this you can use an indexing tool like Windows Desktop Search.

Good to know. It always seemed to be the oldest items whenever I tried it.

Yeah, in most cases that is true of course when one started with a clean
mailbox or pst-file. It's only a subtle difference ;-)
