Email repeats sending

When I send an email with a large attachement (5MB), it is repeatedly sent to
the recipient over and over, while still shown in the outbox. The
send/receive meter on the bottom right corner moves up to 91% complete and
then back down...

Mail is being sent, but Outlook does not recognize it as being sent???

If you are running a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook disable this
integration and try again.

Thanks... but still the same results... (test) email was sent out 4 times and
remained in the outbox, before I cancelled it...

I am using outlook 2003 and I have a hotmail account...

What version of Outlook and mail account type are you using?
Tried it with a clean mail profile already?

That clears things up a bit. HTTP connections to a Hotmail account suffers
from timeouts a lot. If your subscription allows it use the MSN Outlook
Connector to connect to your Hotmail account. In some cases starting with a
new mail profile offers greater connection stability but transmitting more
than 1MB remains troublesome for Hotmail connections.
