Email option in Outlook to use Word as editor will not stay?

I have set my email option to use Word as editor and yet it does not stay
selected and the error message that Word cannot be found or is in use and
Outlook editor will be used continues to pop up. I am using Office XP with
Windows XP on a new machine, so perhaps I have set something up incorrectly?

Are you using the same versions of Outlook and Word?
This is a requirement to use Word as your editor.

If you are using the same versions then, try a Repair on your Office
installation.
