Hi I am using Outlook 2007 and when I am using another application and an
email comes in the tally increments on the mail folders but does not appear
in the inbox display. Until I click on one folder and then reclick on the
inbox folder. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is this an issue with
outlook or user error? Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Adam Smith

I am having this same problem in Outlook 2007 (not on Exchange), and am
looking for a solution.
In my case, when message arrive, I don't get the envelop notification, sound
alert, or rectanglar preview box that appears in the lower right corner, even
though all those options are checked yes.

Like Adam, the tally goes up in my inbox but the messages do not appear in
the reading pane, unless I click off the inbox, then back on. The problem
comes and goes, not sure if using other applications affects it. I spent two
hours on the phone with MS support regarding this, and they had me rebuild my
"personal file." That helped for a day or two, but now the problem is back.
Any help appreciated, this is a very frustrating problem that should have
been fixed before release.

I've seen this happen in an Exchange environment if the router is
misconfigured and doesn't handle UDP packets properly. It also can be an
issue with the XP firewall, have you told it to allow Outlook.exe?

Kathleen,
I'm not using Exchange, and my firewall does allow Microsoft Outlook (does
that mean outlook.exe as well)? But the problem still persists. Any other
suggestions that you think might help?
Thanks,
SJ

If you did an upgrade to Outlook 2007 locate the extend.dat and outcmd.dat
and rename them while Outlook is closed. You might also want to create a new
profile to see if that helps.
Let me know.

Thanks Kathleen. The problem seems to be coming and going. Right now, it's
not happening. If it does again, I will try renaming the extend.dat and
outcmd.dat files. The MS support person created a new profile using remote
desktop, and that did not solve the problem.

Kathleen,
The problem has resuraced. What are and where can I locate the outcmd.dat
and extend.date files? I've run searchs for both of these on my computer and
they have not come up.
Thanks,
Scott
