email in sent items but not sent

I have a person on MS Exchange she sent an email out on 1/15 and it did not
reach the recipients until 1/17. Even though it appears to have left the
Outbox and is in the "Sent Items" folder, it did not send out until she came
back to work and relogged back in to her Outlook. We are using Outlook 2003.
She is under the 2gig/20gig limit set by Microsoft. What would be the
reason(s) why her email was hung until she logged back in? She has over 50
files with 900,753 kb ost and 431 kb Nk2.

If it's in Sent Items, then it was sent, as far as Outlook is concerned.
Perhaps Exchange hadn't sent it yet. Is the Exchange mailbox the delivery
location or is it a PST? Was she in offline mode when she "sent" it?

Good question. We pull from an outside sever and I have contacted them. And
I have looked on their server and no email was sent via their server. but it
is showing as far as Outlook is concerned that it was sent. I tend to think
she sent it and not realized she was not connected to the server and when she
logged back on the server syncronized and then sent out the emails. what are
your thoughts?

Well, if she was offline when she sent it, it should have remained in Outbox
until she connected, then have moved to Sent Items, so that's probably not
the explanation.

I don't know what you mean by "we pull from an outside server", since
outgoing mail is a "push".

Wrong terminology. What I mean is our exchange is external through a vendor.
Exhange is the deliver not pst. she may have been in offline mode dont know
is there a way to check?

There should be an icon on the status bar that indicated the online/offline
state. Additionally, the File menu has a "Work Offline" selection that will
be checked or unchecked, depending on the state.
