Email in Outlook - Office 2003

Switched over from Outlook Express to Outlook in Office 2003 several months
ago. I like it so much better!
But today when I go to delete an email - it just strikes through it. It use
to put it in the garbage. Whats up?

What mail account type are you using?
In case op IMAP use Edit-> Purge Deleted Items

I switched over to a 56k modem out in the country. No high speed.
The telephone assistant switched it to imap.
It now works, but does it have to be imap????

Don't know. Ask your provider what other options your subscription provides.
