Hi, i never thought i would be asking this but can someone recomend a
completely user friendly email client that i can get for my grandmother? Shes
having a helluva time with Hotmail and im not even gonna attempt to show her
Outlook.

Shes got like Zero computer experiance and im not sure what i should use for
her email client as ive never had any problems figuring stuff like that out.

She really doesn't need an email client at all with Hotmail--just her
browser. Set her home page to Hotmail or My MSN.com.

Well thats the problem. If i do that im sure the other user of the computer,
my nephew will just go and change the website as he lives with her and is the
main user of the computer. she also says hotmail has too much "razzle
dazzle"

What else can i use aside from hotmail ?

My parents and grandparents are happy with Eudora. It
seems to do everything they want without razzle-dazzling
them ;)

Well I set up my Mother-in-Law with a Freeserve (now Wannado) account
using Outlook 97 and she was then about *EIGHTY* years of age and had
absolutely NO computer experience at all. Don't underestimate the elderly!

Never used it but..

Quote: FamilyMail can either control the whole email process from email
reception to computer shut down, or walk the end-user progressively through
the different steps. Emails are displayed in large type, sequenced like a
slide show, making it very comfortable for viewing. The entry-level mode
allows email communication without requiring any computer or mouse training,

Sounds ok.

Hello,
I know what you meant and even I have a hard time to login and logout. All those web based eMail services are liked that --- they
all hide the 'logout' menu, etc. If she can easily read your message then I would suggest this one:

http://www.incredimail.com/english/index.html

It will eliminate User Name/password to login and no need to logout. Check it out and if you agree --- post back for more
instruction or configuration so she will have a very friendly and easy eMail client.

I'll be glad if this helps. Thank you.

I'm really not sure how much simpler any other mail client will be than
Outlook Express or Hotmail. Your grandmother will still have to learn
the basics of getting, reading and sending email.

I'm also not sure what you mean by saying your nephew will change the
website. Either use OE or set up a Hotmail or Yahoo account for her.
Then make a shortcut on the desktop to the webpage and label it
something like "Grandma's Email". Then when she double-clicks it she'll
go directly there. You didn't mention how she connects, so of course if
she is on dialup you'll need to show her how to get on line.

Stop having them share the same login account. Let your grandma have
her own account and your nephew his account. Then any preferences, like
home page for the brower, are specific to the logged in user for their
account. You shouldn't have them sharing the same account in the first
place.

No, no, no to Incredimail! It will also fill up her computer with all
kinds of adware and cr*p. It's also loaded with blinking flashing
banners and garbage.

I have had several non-geeks thank me for recommending WebTV.

Sorry, hit send too soon.

How does she feel about her browser? I have had several non-geeks
thank me for recommending WebTV because they could browse the Web
and do e-mail as well. One friend actually ran a weekly maiing list
off of WebTV.

So if she's not fiercely loyal to her browser, WebTV might be an
option.

Please try it before commenting. I even have OE-6 and it screwed up many times while Incredimail never happen. Yes, I loved and
still got both program working. I used Incredimail as a back-up because OE-6 can read Newsgroup.

No thank you to Incredimail. I'm glad you like it, but I've cleaned up
too much malware from it on clients' computers to be able to recommend
it.

Mozilla Thunderbird is a good e-mail program, and it's free from
http://www.mozilla.org/. Or you can download the whole suite of browser and
e-mail combined.

Speaking of malware is a different story. Who is afraid of malware this time --- we must use 4 or more combo malwares software and
delete them after every uses. Congress should pass a law against malware or maybe they still sleeping.

It would certainly be worthwhile to check out Thunderbird. While
you're at it, look at Pegasus (www.pmail.com). It's also free, it's
quite full-featured, and it's safe. You can set it up so all she has
to do is start the program and bring down the mail. I think you can
set it up so that it queries the POP3 server when it starts, too.

and I thought incredimail was just a customised version of OE.

Just dont install it in the first place.
