I am trying to get rid of an incorrect email address in my system, but
despite deleting ALL messages containing the wrong address and re-inserting
the correct address in my contacts file (where, incidentally, the wrong
address doesn't appear), I still get the incorrect addresses (plus the
right one) when I try to send a new message - all very irritating! Can you
help?

Address autocompletion in Windows Mail doesn't use the contacts file.
Instead, it uses a separate list of the last 29 addresses you sent messages
to, or tried to send messages to. This list is rather hard to edit by hand,
so until someone tells you where to find a program to do this, try using
the contacts list instead. Start a new message as usual, except don't
type any part of the address. Instead, click on To:.
