I've noticed that when I go to type an email to someone that has previously
been in my contacts--their email address is gone. Either I am crazy--or the
contacts are being deleted. Is there a time frame that if I don't send an
email to someone they get deleted?? Is there a setting I can check for this?
I just don't understand.
thanks

Did you save the email address as a contact?
Windows Mail has 2 separate ways of handling contacts.
1. The Contacts folder, which you have to populate by creating & entering
the necessary info or by importing from another file.
2. The auto-complete function, which remembers the last 29 email addresses
you type into an address field (To:, CC:). These addresses are not stored
as contacts, and will get replaced by other new ones you type in.

It sounds like you are experiencing the second item. If you wish to keep
the email address available, then store it as a contact. However, the
auto-complete function does not access the contacts folder, so you will have
to click on the To: box to select.

The newer Windows Live Mail works better in this area.

WEll that solves part of it--but I know that I have added them in as
contacts--I've been email this person for years--and all of a sudden they are
gone?? Any other thoughts?

The auto-complete function, remembers ONLY the last 29 email addresses you
type into an address field (To:, CC:). These addresses are not stored as
contacts, and will get replaced by other new ones you type in.

you need to click on the TO option to get your contacts and click the
contact name .....
