Email Contacts only listed by 1st name

I'm using Outlook 2002 and have put all my contacts in the contact portion
and have them listed to dispay by last name, first name but when I go to send
an email and press "to" the pull down menu pops up from the outlook contacts
and they are ALL listed only by first name, I cannot even search them by last
name. This just isn't working. I'm not sure what else to do. Even though I
have listed them in Contacts to display by last name it still will only pull
it up by first name when I go to send an email. PLEASE HELP!!! Any ideas?
 
No question is asked and answered more frequently here. Never be afraid to
read previous posts on the same subject. In fact, I think you may be our one
millionth unlucky questioner.
Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book > Change… > Set your sort order there.
Restart Outlook.
 
Thank you soooo much Russ Valentine!! It solved my problem. Your
information worked and now I am properly sorted. I tried everything and just
couldn't figure it out--thanks again--you were a HUGE help!
