Email ACCESS data collecting from Mac to Win!

S

S!mon

In a school district most teachers use Apple computers
However data coordinators and administrators use Windows machines. Now I am
working with an ACCESS DB and I need to collect data via e-mail messages from
teachers (apple computers) to me (windows computer). Unfortunately I noticed
this process works well for Windows to Windows computers but does not work
for
Mac to Windows!
Do we have chance to set up e-mail collection for Mac to Windows?
Thank you,
S!mon

I'm not sure if it's possible at all, but if it is, it would only work from
an Internet Explorer browser. That said, ther are other methods of entering
data than email, which might work over the internet. You can try one of the
emulator programs, or WINE, or evn a terminal services client.

The email collection system outlined here hat is built into access should
work just fine with emails returned back to you from Mac or any computer for
that matter...

Hi Kallal,
An email data collection is the important advantage of ACCESS database!
Thank you for your link, however in my example this works only for Win to
Win and not for Mac to Win. Win ACCESS distributes emails ( Outlook) to Mac
(Entourage). I received emails in Mac computers (they look differently than
emails on Win computers). I may print information and send back these emails
however I did not received information in ACCESS table.
Thank you,

I'm confused by what you've written, and I think it's because *you*
are confused.

An email data collection system's OS matters only on the one system
where the received email messages are processed. The email messages
themselves should be able to be generated by any email program that
can produce a properly formatted email message (according to the
appropriate RFCs).

But maybe I'm minunderstanding the architecture of what you're
doing. I can't quite figure out how a multi-master setup, where you
have both Mac and Windows computers needing to process the emails,
makes any sense.

Why would you be reading the email on a Mac, when Access won't run on a Mac
(Except on Parallels which uses Windows anyway)?

The process requires the database reading the email, and that is an
Outlook/Access process.

Any email reader, even web based HTML systems should work the above email
collection system built into access..

So, the above emails sent to a mac or even Linux or even a web based email
system should work just fine.

It actually quite a slick setup. If they added a bit more control over the
forms, this feature would be reason enough to purchase 2007.

I have made an experiment. Looks like a Receiver computer (as a sender) has to have ACCESS 2007.
Mac does not have, so system Win<-> Mac does not work. In my experiment the
main computer (with database) has ACCESS 2007, however another computer does
not have ACCESS 2007. Finally second computer received data collection email
which was sent by main computer, I can reply, but I could not process this
email in main computer.
