ELUSIVE MACRO

When a Word 2007 document (.doc extension) is opened, it reports the presence
of a macro. However, the Macros dialog does not reveal one.

Does anyone know how I can delete this ephemeral macro?

Did you check for the macro in the Visual Basic Editor? If you see an empty
module then that's enough to trigger the macro warning. If you don't want
the macros, or if it has an empty module, the easiest way to remove the
warning is to save the file in the new file format (.dotx) which is a
macro-free file type and if macros are present they will be removed. Then if
you need to keep the old file format save it again in the 97-2003 (.doc)
format.

Hi,

Eureka!

That was it. Saving to .dotx reported a VBA Project (which must, as you say,
have been blank).

Thanks -- mission successful. But how do blank projects get in the file in
the first place?

I also noticed that other files from the same source, when opened, attempt
to log on to the supplier's website. Is this likely to be part of the
project/macro?

An empty project can be created by inserting a module and deleting it or
using the Macro Recorder to record a macro and then later deleting the
macro.

As for your other question, more than likely the template the supplier is
using to create the document a SharePoint (or similar) site. When you open a
document it attempts to locate the document template. The way to determine
if this is the cause on the Developer tab click Document Template and note
the path at the top of the dialog box. If it is pointing to a location you
don't have access to then you can delete it and the document template will
default to your Normal template.
