eliminating trailing zeroes imported into word document from excel file

I am using Windows XP, Msft Word vsn 2002, Msft Excel vsn 2002. I
have prepared an excel file
containing numbers and have formatted the cells that contain the
numerals to just 3 decimal places.

However, when I access the Excel file in a word document using Word's
mail merge feature, the numbers appear with approx 10 zeroes following
the decimal number.

I've rechecked the Excel file and only 3 decimal point places are in
the file.

How can I set the Word document up so only 3 decimal places appear?

All help extremely appreciated! This has been most frustrating.

Best, Aaron

The formatting is carried across from Excel to Word.

If you want a solution in Word, you may need to ask in a Word group.

The easiest solution in Excel is a helper column such as =TEXT(A1,"0.000")

Sorry. I intended to say "The formatting is NOT carried across from Excel
to Word."

There's an article on the Microsoft web site that might help you:

Answer Box: Numbers don't merge right in Word

And if you prefer the old Mail Merge helper, Word MVP Suzanne Barnhill
has instructions here:

about half way down the page.

dear Debra, Dave, David & others. Thank you for your posts. The
problem was resolved by
going to "Answer Box" that Debra recommended. Best, Aaron
