Eliminate the "Shortcut to..." prefix for shortcut names?

Is there a way to change, or better yet, eliminate, the default "Shortcut
to..." prefix that gets assigned to all new shortcuts, so that...

a) XP stops using it when making new shortcuts, and
b) It can also be stripped from all existing shortcut names, via a .bat file
or something?

Download and install TweakUI from Microsoft:

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

TweakUI.exe
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once the program is installed go to the Start Menu -> Powertoys
for WindowsXP -> TweakUI.
In TweakUI, click on Explorer in the left hand column.
In the Settings box, remove the check mark from the box next to
Prefix "Shortcut to" on new shortcuts.
Click OK.

Good luck

This is from www.kellys-korner.com

Shortcut to....- Remove the 'Shortcut to...' Prefix on Shortcuts

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

Per User
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
Per System
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]

Create a new BINARY value name 'link', modify the existing value, to equal
'00 00 00 00' to have the Shortcut text disabled (00 00 00 00 = No Shortcut
Text). Restart Windows before creating any new shortcuts.

Note: This restriction can be used either on a user by user basis by adding
it to HKEY_CURRENT_USER or on a computer wide basis by adding it to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Option #2 install tweakiu this is one of its funtions.

Right click on the shortcut. Then select "Rename".
Surely if you a lot of these, it would be easy to automate changing the name
because a shortcut is just a file.

Thanks, MAP: the registry hack works like a charm!
