Eliminate the Archives in Explorer Left Panel?

Is there a way to avoid Explorer's showing the archives in the left
panel of drives/folders? I have some folders that have hundreds of
archive files, and when I display such folders, the left panel shows
them vertically, as well as the subfolders. Previous versions of
Windows (3.1, 95, 98SE) did not behave this way, and it's most annoying
to have the left panel "consumed" this way.
Please advise. TIA

Hi Michael,

In Windows Explorer, go to Tools/Folder Options/View and uncheck Display
simple folder view.....
