EIGHT minute boot ???

This is a core duo Dell with 2GB RAM. It is stable and excellent
in all respects save one -- it takes more than eight minutes to
boot (varies slightly with the phase of the moon).

Services, prefetch, and accessories have been trimmed to the
extent of my knowledge and confidence. What should I check to
reduce this lag?

Thank you! The problem is surely in there, like a tan needle in
a haystack. But getting this thing running well is worth the effort.

The logs should disclose the cause of the long boot time. That said... I've
seen long boot times in XP when the system is set to clear the page file
when shut down or restarted... Windows then must, apparently, do some
housework when it boots up due to the page file having been cleared out
during shutdown/restart. Just my experience, though...

1 What anti-virus are you running? Some use a lot of resources.

2 How old is your computer. If it is new, indexing could be sorting itself out

3 Go into "run", "msconfig" and see what you have strating up at boot. You
don't need Nero or anything like that. Customise your startup to suit
yourself, reboot, leave it in the selected startup, and tick the warning box
not to annoy you again!
