EIDE Hard Drives

Hi
I just installed an 80gb EIDE hard drive into my XP PC. On boot up, it was constantly hanging, and therefore would not boot up, or recognise the drive. After much searching and reading on the manufacturers' website, I forund the answer to my problem, use an irregular jumper pattern. I have done this, and the drive now functions, but only at half it's original capacity! I was wondering if anyone knew a fix for this
The hard drive make is Western Digital 800BB 80GB 7200rpm 2mb Cach

Also, does Windows XP Home Edition have a hard drive partitioning facility? It would be of great help to me

Please e-mail me any information you may have on this. My e-mail address is (e-mail address removed)
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Did you set each drive jumper pins or just the new one,set old to master,
new to slave, you can even put the new drive on the other ide cable if a
80 pin is there,set to master,cdrw as slave.XP can partition,run,type:
diskmgmt.msc
L.click the drive,action,all,format,set as you want.When its thru,L.click
the drive, action.all, select, make active. If you think the drive is bad, dwnload
from wd the DOS utility that can run tests on the drive, its runs in PHOENIX
dont use the other that has mntce, basic drive info.etc,PHOENIX can zero out
the drive also.p.s.select quick test
