The shortcut-to-an-MSDOS-program in the Quicklaunch Bar has its tooltip showing more than just the name. How can I edit out the unwanted part to leave only the name ?

right click the icon and choose rename. Type the name you want it to be, click OK.

It was not the NAME that I wanted to change, but the extra parts, that do NOT show in the edit screen you have suggested. Anyway - I now know they CAN be removed if the file is opened in a hex-editor, and one does the required detective work to discover what has to be re-placed with what.
