Editing Hyperlinks

John Corbett

When I create hyperlinks, I can use the Action Settings or Hyperlink
buttons. Besides being redundant (because the button actions take you to the
same dialog), why can I not (sometimes) create just a link to the file
without the hard path? Is there information somewhere (besides the online
"helpless" file) where I can get more information on editing hyperlinks and
ensuring that the remain relative? The problem of hard links crops up
especially when I'm linking to a file that is not Microsoft (e.g., an Adobe
PDF file).

Thanks!

Try putting the PDF in the same folder as the PPT's already been saved to, then
linking.

Once you've done that, rightclick, choose Edit Hyperlink and remove the path.

If you want something more automatic, have a look at our commercial FixLinks
addin ... http://www.pptools.com

The free demo's kind of handy on its own; it includes a link reporting tool
that'd help you track down the links you need to fix if you decide to do it
manually as above.
