I'm trying to write with edit.com but I can't make the shell fill the screen.
Even at full size the shell is surrounded by white space. I want to work
with a black background and green font. It has "resize" in the edit.com menu.
How do I get it to work? Thanks

Edit.com is a legacy 16-bit program. It does not have the capability to fill
the whole screen. Use notepad.exe or search Google for a text editor that
gives you a full range of foreground/background colours.

You can't go full screen, but you could set up your desktop with a black
background if you really want to use Edit.

Incidentally, the line editor Edlin is still available in XP. <g>
