edit points resolution

I'm very used to the draw freeform shape and edit points functions in
ppt-2003 for drafting complex lines and shapes (e.g., to outline shapes on a
photo background). I now have ppt-2007 and I find the edit points function
terribly downgraded. (1) does anyone know how to change the default settings
for draw freeform shape function so that it draws straight segments between
shape points (vertices) as 2003 does rather than defaulting to spline
function or something as 2007 does. (2) is it me, or does is seem like the
edit points function has less resolution in 2007 than in 2003. For example,
with 2003, I'm used to zooming in 300% if needed to precisely move a line
vertex to match a boundary in the background photo (i.e., tracing), but now
with 2007 I find edit points won't let me drop the vertex as precisely as
2003 -- as if it has a matrix of allowable points that is lower resolution
than 2003. I'll have to continue to use 2003 and wish I didn't buy 2007
until I can figure this out because it's the major function I use.

I agree, I don't like the changes. The freeform tool does draw straight
segments if you are VERY careful not to move the mouse as you click. I've
also found that if you go back to 2003 with a freeform drawn or even opened
in 2007 you cannot edit points at all!

Has there been a resolution to the not being able to edit points at all if
you go back to 2003 with a freeform drawn?

I am having the same issue and want to know if there is a KB on the topic.
