Edit Guest Log?

I use FrontPage 2002. I have a guest log on my website. There are some spam
entries I would like to edit out but keep the rest of the entries so they can
continue to be viewed on the web site. How do I do that?

Don't delete them, just replace the wording with something.

I have opened the guestlog.htm directly on the site and deleted and also
changes the name and the link name so spam scripts can't find it as easy.

Hey Thomas!! Good to "talk" to you again. Your solution sounds easy, but
how do I do what you are suggesting? Also, please read Jack Slater's
suggestion, or rather, action below:

"I have opened the guestlog.htm directly on the site and deleted and also
changed the name and the link name so spam scripts can't find it as easy."

I don't know what he's done, but I've re-published the website and the spam
entries are still there.

Here's the URL to my website. You'll probably remember it; it's about
dogs!!! :)

Thanks, Thomas

Jack, What have you done? I can't see any difference in the page. I
re-published the website thinking that's what I might need to do to clear
things out, but the "spam" entries are still there.

Now that I think about it some more, Jack, how did you find my web site? I
didn't give you the URL. Maybe I've misunderstood your reply.

Linda,

Open the live site in FP, then open the guest book log, instead actually deleting the item, just
replace the offending text of the message, this way ensures that your message count is not effected.

What Jack also did which is not a bad idea, is to rename the guest book pages, so the spam robot can
no long search for the guest book name.

Thomas, I've been thinking about what Jack said he did and perhaps I
misunderstood him. He didn't have the URL to the website (he was reading the
same question I posted that you read; no URL in the first post) so maybe he
was saying that's what he's done before on his website(s). But I still don't
know how.
Your way sounds easier if I can learn how to do it.

Yes, that is what he has done on his site.

Did you get it Lin? I was referring to my site - opening the site directly
in FP making changes directly to server not to PC.

I'm finding out that even tho I changed the name of the guestlog - the
spammer is still finding it - wonder if there is another way to hide it?

T

Thomas A. Rowe

Are you still using the words "Guest Book" anywhere?

changed both pages to guests not guestlog or guestbook - think that will
get it or should I change them to fruitsaladlist.htm?

R

Ronx

You should change the name of guestbook.htm, and update links to that.
The spambots probably do not know (or care) about guestlog.htm

T

I would remove any reference to word Guest or Guest Book, etc. from your site, fruitsaladlist.htm
might be a good start.
