Just right-click on it, choose "customize", and then make the desired
changes. I don't see much point in this though as edits to the built in
menus and toolbars will only show up on your PC. If you want toolbars and
menu that "follow your file" when you distribute it to other users then you
need to create NEW menus and toolbars. These can contain items that are
copied form the built in ones, but they do need to be created from scratch
to stay with the file.

Sorry, I may not have been clear. There are new menus and toolbars created
that "follow" my fle when distributed. I just can not for the life of me
find the source code and/or gui that will allow me to edit them. There must
be something I missed in Micosoft's wonderful documentation.

Thanx

As stated, you right-click on any menu or toolbar and choose "Customize".
Once the customize dialog comes up you are free to display and make changes
to any menu or toolbar in the application.

O.K. but the menus, or rather the menubar that I set up in "startUp",
are/is not existent when I am in editing mode. They only show when the
application is opened like the end user would open it.

Assuming you used the shift by-pass key, and simply are at the main
development window, then you simply just right click on any menu bar up top,
and select customize.

At this point, you get a Customize dialog, and 3 tabs (Toolbars, Commands,
Options).

Of course, the first tab "toolbars" shows, and lists ALL of the menus you
make (made). If you want to display, and customize a menu that is not in
view, you simply check the box for one of those custom menu bars, and it
will now display, and you are in edit mode. You are thus you are now able
to use the mouse to customize that menu as much as you want. You should then
un-check the box to hide this menu when you are done. If you made a shortcut
menu, then of course you have to display (choose) "shortcut menus" from the
above list to get at any shortcut menu you made.

You should spend some time reading, or learning how to make menus. They are
easy to make, but you do/should do some reading, or learning. While trial
and error works for learning Word, or Excel, trail and error is NOT going to
work as a learning approach for ms-access.

If you don't have a good book that explains this process, you can find a
link here:

http://www.microsoft.com/accessdev/articles/bapp97/toc.htm

The above is for a97, but it well applies to later versions also.

The customize dialog will expose EVERY menu and toolbar in the file. You might
have to scroll down and check a box before you see the one you want, but it will
be in the list.

Funny checking the box for one of those custom menu bars is giving me a
beep. Every time I try I get an error. Is that why trial and error does not
work with such advanced microsft products?

Has anyone esle experienced this behaviour and is there any way to work
around it. Project started in 97 and has been migrated to an ms-access 2002
..adp project with a sql server back-end. The custom menu bar does display
and function properly assuming I do not use the shift by-pass key.

Thanx again for the leg up.

It is in list, I can mouse over the check box, I can click my mouse...then I
get beeped at, well actually it is more of a like a boing.

Anyways that is where it stands. Aside from recoding it, I am stuck. Is
there something I am missing, like a lock on that particular custom menu bar.

Thanx Jim

Oops,

Have to highlight menu, click properties button then click show/hide.

Got thrown with the right click on the menu bar giving me a (What's this?).

To the micosoft documentation team, if you'd just mention somewhere about
the show/hide check box in the properties dialog.

Oh well guess I should go buy that book.

Thanx for all the help. Developers have to stick togethor or nothin would
get done in this world.
