how do I edit dictionary in word, my version 6. does not seem to have this
function.

Assuming you're talking about the custom dictionary (the basic lexicon can't
be edited), go to Tools | Options | Spelling. In the Custom Dictionaries
list, select CUSTOM.DIC (which will be the only one if you haven't created
any others) and click the Edit button. The dictionary will open as a normal
Word document in which you can add, delete, and edit text. When you close
the document, make sure you save it as a text-only file. This file can also
be edited with Notepad.
