Hi, I have a set of data and I want to multiply each cell by 1000 s
want to add *1000 in about 30-40 cells together. is there any way to d
it quickly rather than going into each cell manually and enterin
*1000

Thank you :confused

Hi
try the following
- enter 1000 in an empty cell
- select and copy the cell (CTRL+C)
- select your data range
- goto 'Edit - Paste Special' and choose 'Multiply'

sachinattri ,

In an empty cell put 1000 , copy it , select the cells you want to be
multipied and then Edit / Paste special / from the operation select
multiply.
If the cells contain a value that value will be multipied by 1000. If they
contain a formula * 1000 will be added to that formula.

If you also want the cells with a value to contain a formula ( = 5 * 1000
if 5 was the original value), you need a special Addin.

You can find that here : http://www.asap-utilities.com/ (ASAP utilities) or
http://j-walk.com/ss/ (Pup V5)

If you would rather have a formula in the cells instead of losing the underlying
data, then put 1000 into say cell A1. In any other cell, put =$A$1. Now copy
the cell with =$A$1 in it, select the entire set of data to adjust and do Edit /
paste Special / Multiply. All cells will now contain their original data and a
formula that multiplies that data by whatever is in cell A1. You can now change
the data in A1 at will and have it flow through to the cells.

Just curious, did you go with the straight values or put the formulas in.

Sorry Ken,

I don't know wether he went for the data or for the formula's.

However from your reaction I notice that there was a response. I had this
posting set for watch as well, but did not see a reaction.

Aren't messages on Excelforum supposed to "''go through" to the microsoft
server as well.

I ask so, because I notice lately a lot of postings for which there is no
response.
Sure, there will always be a group from which you don't get "feedback", but
it seems that that occurs far more often then I was used to.

Or is it a "known" fact that only part of the messages from Excelforum "come
through" in MSnews ?

(I'm reading via Outlook Express , server : news.microsoft.com).

TIA,

Sorry ?.

Now I notice that there IS (at least now there is) a reaction.

But I think that there are still more unresponded reaction than I (think I)
was used to.

As far as i am aware, ExcelForum propogates all messages through the MS groups.

Hadn't noticed that to be honest - Do you mean in the MS groups you are seeing
this, or in ExcelForum?

I noticed this in the MS groups. At least I think I noticed it.
I have the impression that some messages aren't (always) coming through from
Excelforum to MS newsgroups.

It's more an impression than that I'm sure of it, but at one of two
occasions I've actually seen that a thread I checked via Google had more
entry's than I saw in the Excell newsgroups. (This sometimes occurs when
messages are tied together by accident because they have (nearly) the same
subject, but that was NOT the case in the cases I mean).

It's not really important, but seeing your message and not having seen the
earlier reaction of sachinattri, brought this item back to mind.
I do NOW have Sachinattri's reaction, but thought that it wasn't there at
the time I wrote the first message.
But I'm not sure this time that I didn't just oversee it.

However, as you didn't notice it, and assuming no one else jumps in as well,
I suppose i just got a wrong impression.
As said, I didn't thoroughly check it, I just thought there was shown "one
more case" of what I suspected.

Anyhow, thanks for your reaction and I will - as soon as possible - conduct
a (small) survey to check it a bit further.

I use OE and have it set to 'Watch' that thread. It lights up in Blue when
there is a reply, and that is how I knew there had been a response.

So do I ( although it's in red).
But in this case It was ( I think) highlighted because of your reply to
sachinattri (and I didn't see - at that time - his response). As I said
I'm not sure I didn't just oversee it, but in that case I would have to be
overlooking his (then also highlighted) reply as well.

It IS possible (likely?), but I just can't tell anymore.

As said : Thanks for your replies and I'll have to take a better look into
it.

I work on multiple sheets with a diverse range of data. I used this ti
to do both, add to values and add to formulas as well.

Thanks to you guys. Was involved in a project so couldnt respon
earlier.

yes sometimes when you post there is no response but I think its mor
individual based than systems.

Thanks again
