edit a scanned document

I am trying to edit a scanned document - I've already edited some of it, so I
know it's possible, but I've run into a snag. There are many lines in the
document - most I've been able to delete with points, but there are some that
run through text and and deleting points option is not working. Any
suggestions? Thanks!

The ease with which you can edit a scanned document rather depends on the
quality of the OCR software that you use for the conversion. Some of it is
more trouble than it is worth. Arguably the best is Finereader. For the
cheaper nastier varieties, you are probably better exporting the document as
plain text and reformat it in Word.
As for lines in the document, they are probably borders -
