Easy Transfer

I want to use the "windows easy transfer" program to my new Vista system, but
the old XP machine keeps coming up with "not responding." How can I repair
the not responding? I have rebooted and reistalled about 50 times.

Is it a Network connection, or a "Easy Transfer USB Cable"? Serial port
cables don't work well enough.

I have the Belkin USB Cable. When that cable gets plugged in the easy
transfer program opens up, but when I hit the next button nothing happens.
Then I open up task manager and it says not responding.

I would suspect some USB driver problem on one end, or the other. In both
systems:

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the USB Root Hub
device(s), Action menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device
drivers again automatically.

Same result. The CPU goes up extremely high after plugging in the cable.

I found these Kbase articles on Easy Transfer. It couldn't hurt for you to
touch base with these other problems, hoping for some kind of hint into your
problem.

a special problem:

Instead of doing the uninstall of SP2 I'll try doing a repair. And thank you
so much for your continued assistance on this matter! P.S. Just to see what
should happen with the easy transfer program I started the process at work on
my desktop and it worked. Tested another person's laptop also. Appears to be
something unique on my home computer.
