What does the little square with the red x in it mean?

If you are using Outlook 2003, it blocks images and html by default.
You have to put the sender in a safe group or choose to download the
images on a one time basis. If the image is actually at an online
site, you will not see the image if your email program is offline.
Your email program may try to connect as soon as you open the
message offline.
