e-mail notification upon startup

This may look like a stupid problem, but I can't seem to solve it:

when starting up my computer (Windows XP home edition), I get an overview of
the different user accounts from wich i can choose as which user I want to
log-in. Next to the names of the accounts I get a notification of the number
of unread e-mails this user has. How do I turn this notification off? I only
get faulty notifications (i.e. you have 180 unread e-mails, while every
folder in the e-mail account is blank...)

I hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance.
