E-mail merge vs. Outlook security update

S

Scot Roberge

I need to do a mass e-mail merge. The main document has
been created in Word 2000. When I attempt to execute the
merge, I get this message:

"A program is trying to a access e-mail addresses you have
stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this? . . ."

I have to click "Yes" to continue - for EVERY address I am
e-mailing to. This is not acceptable on the 500+ addresses
I need to email.

From researching Microsoft's online support site, I
understand this is caused by an Outlook security update -
which I obediently installed at some point in the past.
How do I make this security update "go away"?

Thanks for the straight answer, Sue!!!

You can't just make it go away. Either upgrade to Office
2002 SP-1, get the Exchange administrator to loosen
Outlook security for you, or use a third-party mail merge
tool (see

I'm having the same problem. I have full access to the Exchange Server. How
do I loosen up the Outlook security to keep mail merges from initiating the
security prompt?

The security form works in Exchagne 5.5. Group policy is relevant only as a way to propagate the required client registry value. You can do that just as well in a login script or with manual instructions.

AS soon as I click on the "Trusted Code Tab"

We use a SQL Server and MAPI comaptible tool that generates email

Of course now it won't ! :)

You'll have to refresh the common memory about what your issue is, since it's not included in your latest post.

:) Sure ...,
security upgrade?

We use a MAPI enabled SQL server application (a software defect tracking
tool to be exact)

We need it to be able to deliver its email - the Office 2000 security
upgrade blocks it .......

Which tab? The trusted COM addin technique doesn't work for Outlook 2000.

OK - yes it is 2000

@#*&#@ - I guess I have to think of something else .....

Does any body have a way to do this ????

Recode to use Redemption or use the Exchange admin security form to suppress the prompts.
