E-mail alerts for custom folders

I searched for an answer on the forum but came up empty; please forgive me if this is an old topic.

Outlook can display an envelope icon in our system tray to alert us that a new e-mail message is in our Inbox. I have configured rules to divert incoming e-mail messages into any of several custom folders, but I cannot discern how to enable the envelope icon to announce a new message in any of those custom folders. Can you tell me if (and how) we can configure Outlook to alert us to new messages that have been filtered into custom folders?
