how can I create a mailing list in outlook 2003 that will only show
the name of the list and will not send all the details of addresses to
all recipients? I would like to do this without sending via the bcc
box.

Why not BCC? That's the only way you'll do it AFAIK...unless you do a mail
merge....

You can do this by creating a distribution list in outlook contacts.
outlook>contacts>file>new >distribution list.

I think you missed the point of the question. Clearly the OP already has a
DL but wants to keep the addresses it contains from being known to the
recipients.
