It's an E-Machine. What do you expect?

Try running Memtest86+, this runs from a boot disk or CD and should
eliminate or
confirm if your ram is bad.
Let it run for as long as you can, 2,4,6,8 or more hours, if no errors by
then your ram is OK.
See: http://www.memtest.org/

Then run PassMarks's BurninTest
(The free ware version is limited to a 15 minute
test then you need to restart it)

Anything in the Event Viewer ?

Does the freeze correlate with a lack of activity (i.e. you
stop moving the mouse) ?

If you leave the Task Manager open (control-alt-delete) and
look at the Process tab, do you see anything just before the
freeze happens, that looks suspicious ?

If you download the free version of HDTune, are yous SMART
statistics passing ? That is a health indicator for the hard drive.
You can also do a surface scan of the hard drive with that
tool.

http://www.hdtune.com/download.html (version 2.55 is free)

There was one network driver, years ago, that would cause
a system freeze roughly every 30 minutes, but there hasn't been
a problem like that for some time.

If it was hardware related, you could also try going to the
Control Panel folder, opening the Power Options, and selecting
a power scheme such as "Always On". A power scheme like that,
may leave the processor running at full speed, and avoid
any power saving behavior. Sometimes a freeze happens, when
there is a problem with a processor running in a lower
power state. This test would be only to see if it makes a
difference, and would not be a cure as such.

Are you running any unique hardware or software ? Stuff that
not many other people are using ? Do you use multiple AV
or anti-malware tools ?

To add to the other suggestions, if you don't have some type of power/temp
monitoring application installed I suggest you do. Emachines are
notoriously known for their power supplies going South within a year or two.
Not only do they turn to toast, they often take other components with them.

I can't suggest an app to use since I've always used the ones supplied
with the motherboards, yet I'm sure others can point you to one.
