E-Books

Has anyone ever created an E-Book using Word 2007? Since Word 2007 is able
to save files in pdf format, I wondered if this was sufficient to create an
E-Book with cover that could be marketed on a website?

sufficient in the sense of that you usually end up with a PDF file that
is OK for displaying and/or printing, yes.

The Add-in for Office 2007 does not allow the fine-tuning that, say, the
full Adobe Acrobat offers, in terms of picture downsampling and font
embedding, but for many applications, the result is still very much OK.
And it does not seem to have any method to set PDF security options
(like: allow/disallow to annotate, print, change, etc.).

pdf's can be freely forwdd when someone bought it. You may like to
look into a solution like www.locklizard.com . www.eurebooks.eu offers
a protection service for self-publishers on locklizard's technology
witth a royalty per book.

Thanks a lot, Henk... Got me on the right track. Perhaps I should look for
EBook creating software that includes security measures. Someone said
DESKTOP AUTHOR may be the answer. I downloaded a trial and will give it a
shot. Much obliged. Taleteller

Glad I cld help.
One word of caution: most dedicated eBook sw is html based, not pdf.
There are pluses and minuses in both approaches. HTML comes with a
self-executable file and many virus scanners these days dont like this.
Also, you may lose yr precious Word formatting ...
GL with yr book!
