Hi, I am trying to produce a XY scatter chart/graph of multiple series of
data within an Access form. The data I am trying to plot are decimal
longitude (X) and latitude (Y) positions. One series of XY data are the
positions describing a coastline. On the same graph, I would like to plot
several additional series (sets) of data to mark events or tracklines along
that coastline. I can do this easily within Excel, but would like to be able
accomplish this within an Access form with the hopes of producing a dynamic
chart that plots different locations/tracks as I scroll through each record
of the form.
1a) I finally figured out how to produce an XY scatter plot in Access with
the coastline data, but only 3999 points get 'assigned' to the chart's 'data
table'. The actual table containing the coastline data has 11,000 records
(sets of lat-long positons to fully describe the coastline); therefore only a
fragmented portion of the coastline is plotted out. Is there some reason only
3999 points are plotting? Is this a limit within Access charting capabilities?
1b) As an alternative if 11,000 points is too much to ask of Access, is
there a way that I can properly align an image of the coastline as a
background to the graph, and then plot other data on top of that image to
produce the map? (If this is doable, then it would likely be the more
efficient and aesthetic method).
2) In either case above - how can I add additional series (sets) of "X & Y"
data to the same chart within an Access form? Each series has a unique X and
a unique Y. I can't just add a third column to the table. I need to add 2
columns for each additonal series(one for the X and one for the Y), and I'm
not sure how to tell Access to do this....
My preference is to accomplish this completely within Access (self
contained), but if not possible, can I link multiple of sets of Access data
(from a form) to an Excel chart that updates dynamically as I scroll through
each record of the form?
Any suggestions on how to accomplish this or any other techniques/tips to
achieve the dynamic mapping goal would be very greatly appreciated!!!
