I have a Matsushita read only DVD that will not be read by
WMP it says I lack a ceertain file but where do I get this
from?

The DVD was an OEM from a place that has gone bust and
Pioneer/Matsushita won't support the driver.

What sort of file are you referring to?

IDE DVD-ROM readers are generally supported by the drivers included with XP.

However, to get WMP to display a video DVD, you must have suitable codecs
(compressors/decompressors) installed, and these are not included with XP.

I'm unaware of any way to get them for free. They are included with
commercial DVD player software Common players: WinDVD
(http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/Home.jsp) and PowerDVD
(http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/index.jsp). They are far from free, but
available for download as demo versions. One or the other is usually
included (in a limited OEM form) with new DVD-ROM and DVD-R/W drives. (I've
also seen gray-market OEM versions for sale for $5-10 US.)

Good luck.
