DVD rw stops working after software install.

Hi,

My Pioneer DVR-109 (DVD read / writer) stopped writing last week although
it was reading perfectly. I replaced the drive and the new one had the
same problem, all writing to DVDs failed. Someone in a newsgroup suggested
a clean OS install. I did that last Friday, re-installing Win 2000 Pro.
I've done a full 'Update Windows' so it's back to SP4.

After my OS update and installation of Anti-Virus and Firewall, the first
thing I tried was my DVD burner -- it worked perfectly and I burnt about 5
or 6 DVDs over the next few days, mainly testing it at different speeds,
etc. -- all worked great.

Over the last few days I've been reinstalling software on my PC and not
burning DVDs at all. The installed software is as follows:

1. DotNet Framework 2.0 beta 1 Redistributable.
2. DotNet Framework 2.0 beta 1 SDK.
3. Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8.
4. Shareaza (latest version).
5. Password Safe.
6. WS_FTP Pro (FTP program).
7. MySQL Administrator (though MySQL Server is on a Linux machine).
8. MySQL Query Browser.

Since installing all this my DVD read writer has stopped writing again,
though, as before, it reads fine. [Note: The DVD media I'm writing to has
not changed and it is v. high quality.]

The error displayed with, all 5 of the failures, is as follows:

I/O Error Device: My DVD R/W
ScsiStatus 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition
....not noting the horrid numbers...
Interpretation: Invalid Address For Write.

I presume some software I installed has caused a problem. Some version of
all the software that was installed had been on the PC before I even
bought and installed the DVR-109 in the first place, and so the DVR-109
had been working with it -- though I've installed newer versions of some
of it. Here's what was on before:

1. DotNet Framework 1.1 Redistributable (updated to 2.0 beta 1)
2. DotNet Framework 1.1 SDK (updated to 2.0 beta 1)
3. Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8. (Same version)
4. Shareaza (updated to latest version)
5. Password Safe (updated to latest version)
6. WS_FTP Pro (FTP program). (Same version)
7. MySQL Administrator (updated to latest version).
8. MySQL Query Browser (updated to latest version).

Can someone advise me as to what may be causing my DVD writing problems
please, and how I can resolve the problem.

It you think it is a DotNet problem, how do I resolve the situation as I'd
like DotNet to be working (though v.1.1 would be fine) as well as my DVD
writer.

Many thanks,

MS

There's really no way for us to know. You may need uninstall in reverse
order till you find it or install one at a time (restart after each) to find
what it is. It's curios that you're running a beta version and is the first
one I would suspect. You might get in touch with the burner software vendor
to discuss compatibility issues.
