dvd-rw drive

my dvd -rw drive will not open (there is not a dvd inside) although the
device properties state it is working properly.Has anyone any ideas?

Did you go into MY Computer, right click on the DVD drive and click on
eject?

Try a simple reboot.
One of your burning software programs might not have released it hold on the
drive and a reboot will shutdown that program.
 
(e-mail address removed)
Delete the cdrom from your hardware and reinstall the cdrom with your
original cd from your cdrom drive. That's it
