DVD ROMs no longer recognized

I had just performed the latest "Windows Update." Now, both of my DVD drives
(Samsung DVD-ROM 616Q & Plextor DVDR PX-708A cannot read any DVD *DATA* discs
placed in the drives, whether they are commercial games/productivity
software, or Data DVDs that I have burned (backup archives). When I place a
DVD into the DVD drive(s), the drive is seen as a *CD DRIVE* and not a DVD
drive by Windows XP. DVD movies are the *ONLY* DVDs that are recognized by
Windows XP. Until this is fixed I cannot use *ANY* of my data DVDs or games.
Although the DVD drives are seen by the system as CD drives (In Powerdesk for
example) I have trouble accessing any data on CDs also.

First thing to do is a System Restore to the point before you installed the
Update.... see if there is any change.
