DVD-ROM very noisy

Has anyone had this problem. I have a new compaq with dvd-rom and the dern
dvd-rom sounds like a jet taking off. I've never had one that sounds like
this. Very disconcerting.

Take the computer back to the store and have the DVD ROM drive replaced.

noise was normal in this brand.
