dvd-rom drive

Have just fitted new drive, but pc cant detect new
hardware. Nothing shows up in device manager, neither
does cdr, when I put old dvd back it picks it up plus
cdr. Also orange light stays on tower as if installing,
when the new one is in place, yet works properly with the
old one. I am totally lost........

have you tried going into the BIOS and detecting it there first?
