Hello

I use xp sp2 home.

I fitted a new dvd-rom drive. Someone informed me I do not have to use the
audio cable that comes with the drive as the sound is carried by the ide
cable.

Would connecting the audio cable to motherboard improve the sound quality -
make it digital perhaps ?? Thank you.

Regards

You have to conect the audio cable from the cd-rom to your motherboard.

No on the digitial sound.

I don't use the extra audio cable or need it for my system of 3 years old or
have a connector for it on my mobo.. Some older mobos or sound cards may have
the connector, for now the ribbon (IDE) cable (w/power cable..dah) should be
all you need to connect between your DVD drive and the mobo.. Read the manual
for your mobo or sound card to be sure on any digital capabilities, but
connecting the spare, if needed audio cable will not magically transform your
sound quality into digital..
