Dvd-rom Ddu1621 Not Working

S

STEPHEN TAYLOR

I have two internal drives in my computer:
SONY CRX175A and SONY DDU1621.The computer OS is Windows XP Pro SP2
with all of the updates/patches installed from Microsoft website.
The CRX75A [CD/RW] is working okay, but the problem exists with the
dreaded DDU 1621 DVD-ROM drive.

Graham, answer to your question. Data DVD's [DVD disc is full of
autocad drawings].

Cheers Steve.

What do you mean exactly by dvd media other than films? Data discs?
Did the drive previously function how you wnted it to?

Problem: The drive will read and permit opening of normal CD ROM's,
it
will also allow DVD films to be run, however when trying to open DVD
media other tham films then the drive tries to open tbut then
eventually just gives up for no apparent reason. There was one point
when it started to work, but only briefly and that was when I checked
for new updates on the RADEON Video 7200 card, I downloaded the
updates
then tried to open the DVD, this worked before re-booting, but when I
re-booted the DVD-ROM refused to work again. I have also been onto
the
SONY website to search for new drivers and found:
freedvdwmp.zip
and ddu1621.zip, current drivers are from 2001 when the computer was
new. DVD REGION 2 also selected, but I do not think this is the
problem.

WILL I NEED TO PRURCHASE A NEW DVD [INTERNAL DRIVE]?

System:
Intel Pentium IV 1.8GHz
Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2
RAM 712 MB (SDRAM)
External Disk Drive WD 5 in 1 (256 GB)
Optical Drive SONY DVD-ROM DDU1621
Video RADEON 7200 SERIES(128 MB)
Audio Creative SB PLATINUM Sound Card
USB2

HAs it opened this disc before?
Does the other drive open and see them OK?
How did you create the disc?
How large is the data? I've found with over 2gb if you burn iso data
discssing the likes of nero you need the source computer to read them.
