DVD Play is interrupted

Running HP Pavilion Pentium 4. 1.3 GHz with 512 MB RAM.
Graphics card is NVIDIA RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro. 32MB memory.
New Windows XP Pro with all the updates.

Computer came with Windows ME and played DVD’s just fine. After I installed
XP Pro and Media player 10 discovered I could not play DVD until I bought a
plug in. Am now using a trial version of a $40.00 video decoder (NVIDIA Pure
Video).

Problem is every few minutes play pauses, some times for a second, some
times for four or five seconds, then resumes. Otherwise picture & sound are
good, DVD Plays Ok on my other systems and Win Media Player seems to work Ok
on it’s own.

I would appreciate some thoughts as to what causes this and what I can do to
correct the problem.

You have a rather old and weak video card.
I would suggest replacing it.

Thank You Carey Frisch for your suggestion. I didn’t find the exact card you
suggested but like the PNY Vetro GeForce 6200 @$125.00.

Problem is the Power requirement is listed at 300 Watts ( No indication
weather they mean continuous or Peak).

My Power supply is an ASTEC Model AA21810 With a sticker that says “Maximum
continuous power output 250 Watts†(No indication as to what the peak output
is). I don’t play games, Just want some good digital TV output and wonder if
that card would blow my fuse, melt down my power supply or just possibly work?

I would appreciate advice from any one with experience in this area.
