DVD malfunctions

To Newsgroup, I have a DVD player, using Power DVD and
the disc no longer plays. A box comes up that says i
have to lower the screen resolution and colour, and
depth...to 800 x 600 with 256 colours, or adjust to
refresh frequency to 75 Hz... which i did through
options/tools/ properties... no change. i turned on and
off the computer to see if that would change. nothing.

It also said that the "current display mode is not
supported"... and a code number (can provide if needed
for troubleshooting) It also recommended switching to D-
Draw Overlay Display... which i don't know where to
find. i found one area that said "display", but nothing
with overlay display... and cannot be adjusted. if
anyone can help, i'd be very happy. thank you. wezjeb.

If this is a game, right click the shortcut for it and select properties.
There are some display settings on the Compatibility page that can be
applied to just this game.

The program may have it's own configuration menus or utility. Check the
start menu or help file to see if this is available.

Whether this is a game or not, may need to use Explorer to check the disk
contents for documentation that contains suggestions for using and
troubleshooting.

The DDraw reference is referring to DirectX. May need to run diagnostics
(Start> Run> dxdiag) as well. Besides telling you what version of DirectX
you have installed, the tool will note any problems with the DirectX
installation and the drivers for your hardware. There are also some
troubleshooting tools included with this. I wouldn't suggest making any
changes here until you've consulted the documentation for Power DVD and
the disk giving you trouble and have tried their suggestions.
